The Arkansas Department of Transportation will host a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday, May 28, for a major upgrade project at the Highway 5 and Interstate 57 interchange in Cabot.

The public is invited to attend the event beginning at 11 AM in the parking lot of New Life Church located at 107 Commercial Drive in Cabot.

According to The Arkansas Department of Transportation, the project will reconfigure the existing interchange into a Single Point Urban Interchange, commonly known as a SPUI. Officials say the new design will improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, enhance travel times, and lower the risk of crashes.

The project will also include additional through lanes and dedicated turn lanes along Highway 5.

The Arkansas Department of Transportation Director Jared D. Wiley said the project will improve long-term mobility along the Interstate 57 corridor while supporting economic growth in Cabot and surrounding areas.

The $53.9 million project was awarded to Weaver-Bailey Contractors, Inc. of Conway. Construction is expected to take approximately 2 years with completion projected for mid-2028.
