A Ward police officer was arrested Friday night in Faulkner County, and city officials confirmed the officer resigned shortly before the arrest.

According to Ward Mayor Charles Gastineau, 34-year-old Ward Police Corporal Sean Barber contacted Ward Police Chief Steve Benton shortly before midnight on May 22 to resign from the department.
Mayor Gastineau said in a press release that Barber was arrested soon after by the Faulkner County Sheriff’s Office and booked into the Faulkner County Detention Center early Saturday morning.
Faulkner County records show Barber is facing a felony rape charge that remains under investigation.
Authorities have not yet released additional information regarding the case.
The investigation remains ongoing.
