The Arkansas Department of Public Safety (DPS) marked a major construction milestone April 10, 2026, celebrating the topping out of the new Arkansas State Crime Laboratory in North Little Rock Arkansas.

The ceremony recognized the placement of the final structural beam at the Northshore Drive project site, signaling significant progress on the $200 million state-of-the-art facility.
The new 190000 square foot laboratory will replace the current Arkansas State Crime Laboratory, which has operated at capacity for years due to increased demand for forensic services. The upgraded facility will expand capabilities in DNA analysis, toxicology, digital forensics, firearms examination, and other key scientific areas.

Officials say the investment will improve turnaround times and enhance the accuracy and efficiency of criminal investigations across Arkansas.
The nearly 19 acre property was purchased in April 2024 for $4.095 million following approval from the Arkansas Legislative Council. Construction is being led by Nabholz Construction, with design by WER Architects and MWL.
The new facility is expected to be completed in 2027 and will support law enforcement agencies statewide by strengthening forensic science resources for decades to come.
