Record Cold Temperatures Expected Tonight Across Arkansas as Extreme Cold Warning Continues

, , Leave a comment

Record cold temperatures are expected across Arkansas tonight as dangerously cold air settles over the region and an Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect through Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Little Rock.

Forecasters say overnight lows could drop into the single digits and near zero in many communities, with wind chill values plunging between 10 and 20 degrees below zero, creating life-threatening conditions for anyone exposed to the cold for extended periods.

Meteorologists warn that frostbite can occur in minutes, and hypothermia becomes a serious risk without proper protection. Residents are urged to limit outdoor exposure, dress in layers including hats and gloves, and cover exposed skin if they must be outside.

Homeowners should protect pipes by insulating or allowing faucets to drip slowly. Space heaters should be kept at least three feet away from flammable materials, and generators should never be operated indoors. Officials also urge residents to check on elderly neighbors and ensure pets and livestock have warm shelter, food, and unfrozen water.

Drivers are reminded that lingering moisture on roads may refreeze overnight, leading to slick travel conditions during the early morning hours.

Warming centers remain available across parts of the state for those needing shelter from the extreme cold. Residents are encouraged to monitor trusted weather sources and local emergency updates as conditions evolve.
