For many Arkansas State University students, the path to a degree winds through classrooms on campus. But for thousands of others, the journey happens entirely online—often from hundreds or even thousands of miles away. One of those students, Katelyn Wittman, will travel more than 1,500 miles from Las Vegas to walk across the stage at A-State’s Fall Commencement on Saturday, Dec. 13.

Wittman, a full-time video production teacher and new mother, chose A-State’s online master’s program in mass media management because it allowed her to pursue graduate education while maintaining a healthy work–life balance.

“I needed a program that allowed me to balance family, work and school without sacrificing quality,” she said.

Despite juggling late nights, busy school days, and the challenges of new motherhood, Wittman says attending commencement in person was a priority.

“Walking in person feels like the perfect way to celebrate all of that dedication,” she said. “This degree represents a major chapter of growth, purpose, and fulfillment.”

Her family will join her in Jonesboro—supporters she says made the achievement possible.

“My parents have been incredibly supportive, and my husband has been a constant source of encouragement,” she added. “Standing on that stage will feel like a celebration not just for me, but for everyone who helped me get here.”

Wittman is one of many A-State Online graduates traveling from across the U.S. to celebrate their academic accomplishments.

She says the program not only strengthened her leadership and technical skills, but also deepened her passion for teaching broadcasting.

“Every class felt like another step toward becoming the educator, mentor, and media leader I’ve always wanted to be,” she said. “This program brought my passion full circle.”

A-State’s Fall Commencement ceremonies will be held at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13, at First National Bank Arena.
