WorkWired, an IMPACT Independence County initiative powered by the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce, is celebrating a major milestone—its first “Year of Wins” in building a coordinated, countywide effort to prepare every young person for a living-wage career.

The initiative brings together schools, colleges, employers, and community organizations to ensure youth from birth to age 25 have clear, connected pathways into local, in-demand careers.
“WorkWired isn’t just a project—it’s how Independence County is wiring itself for living-wage futures,” said Crystal John, Chamber President and CEO.
This year’s accomplishments include the launch of the WorkWired Workforce Explorer App, WorkWired.info, countywide scorecards, and the SenseMaker Story Collector, a tool used to gather real stories from students, educators, and employers. These resources help track progress in early childhood readiness, work-based learning, and living-wage employment.
Educational partners such as the University of Arkansas Community College at Batesville and Lyon College say WorkWired is strengthening alignment between coursework, career center programs, and employer needs.
UACCB Chancellor Dr. Brian Shonk noted that aligned pathways are already transforming student outcomes, while Lyon College Executive Director Kristi Price said the initiative highlights how four-year degrees fit into clear, affordable local career pathways.
Industry leaders—including Vital Link EMS and The Toro Company—report stronger talent pipelines as a result of early engagement with students and educators.
“The grid is live, and opportunities to connect are worth celebrating,” said Wiley Osborn of The Toro Company.
WorkWired’s “Year of Wins” marks a turning point toward a future where every young person in Independence County has access to meaningful, sustainable work—and employers benefit from a steady stream of homegrown talent.
