The U.S. forest is working to get ahead of a disturbing “infestation” that’s hitting an Arkansas forest.
According to KARK, a whopping 177 acres of forest have been hit with an “infestation” that could destroy the forest. The U.S. Forest Service is preparing to cut the infested trees down to slow the infestation.
Beetle Infestation Hits Arkansas Forest
The U.S. Forest Service issued a press release revealing 177 acres of Forest Service land have pine trees infected by the Ips engraver beetle.
The infestation trees being affected are ones weak from droughts or lightning strikes. The infestation reportedly starts at Lake Ouachita and runs north-northwest toward the town of Story.
Locals in the area are being told to avoid Forestry Service Roads 69, 69A, and 69B while the Forest Service tries to cut out the infested trees to stop the spread.
