Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin Responds To Racial Allegations In Lawsuit

, , Leave a comment

It appears that the courts have confirmed what Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin has said all along.

In response to a ruling by the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas regarding a lawsuit on a section of the LEARNS Act, Attorney General Tim Griffin issued a statement affirming Arkansas law’s stance on teaching history.

He emphasized that the law does not forbid teaching about segregation, civil rights, or slavery. Griffin expressed satisfaction with the court’s rejection of vagueness claims and noted that the limited injunction aligns with Arkansas’ existing practices. He reiterated the commitment to enforce the statute as intended.

“Today’s decision confirms what I’ve said all along. Arkansas law doesn’t prohibit teaching the history of segregation, the civil rights movement, or slavery. I’m pleased that the District Court entirely rejected the Plaintiffs’ vagueness claims. And the very limited injunction merely prohibits doing what Arkansas was never doing in the first place. I look forward to continuing our enforcement of the statute as written rather than as Plaintiffs would choose to wrongly interpret it.”
