In April, Emile Bangoura, a 35-year-old truck driver from Atlanta, was arrested in Arkansas after authorities discovered nearly 28,000 packs of untaxed cigarettes in his vehicle. The arrest followed a traffic stop on his semi-truck, during which Arkansas Tobacco Control and Central Arkansas Drug Task Force agents found the contraband cigarettes. This seizure was the second-largest in Arkansas Tobacco Control’s history, valued at around $243,000.
Initially held at the Lonoke County Detention Center, Bangoura’s current custody status is uncertain according to recent jail records. It remains unclear whether he has legal representation or the circumstances leading to his potential release.
The case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat illegal activities related to tobacco and drugs in Arkansas, with agencies like Arkansas Tobacco Control and the Central Arkansas Drug Task Force playing crucial roles in these operations.
