An Izard County Sheriff’s Office pursuit has led to the arrest of a 33-year-old man after authorities say he took his mother’s vehicle without permission and attempted to flee from law enforcement.

Matthew Joseph Sollock of Melbourne is facing a felony charge of fleeing and a misdemeanor charge of unauthorized use of a vehicle following the incident.

According to the Izard County Sheriff’s Office, Sollock’s mother had previously allowed him to use her truck, but on Monday afternoon she told him he could not take it. Deputies say Sollock took the vehicle anyway.

A short time later, a deputy located the truck and attempted a traffic stop. Authorities say Sollock refused to pull over, leading deputies on a pursuit along Main Street before turning into the Ashley Woods neighborhood, a populated residential area.

During the pursuit, the deputy used a public address system to order Sollock to stop, but he continued driving.

The pursuit ended when Sollock stopped at a stop sign, where the deputy positioned his patrol unit behind the vehicle and conducted a felony traffic stop.

Sollock was taken into custody without further incident.

Authorities say he later posted a $5,000 bond and has been released.

Previous Arrest History

Officials also confirmed Sollock has a prior felony arrest in Izard County dating back to 2018.

In that case, he faced 15 counts of breaking or entering, 7 counts of theft of property, and additional charges including theft of a vehicle, theft of a firearm, and first-degree criminal mischief tied to a series of break-ins in Horseshoe Bend.

Sollock later entered a plea agreement, pleading guilty to 2 counts of breaking or entering, theft of a vehicle, and theft of a firearm. He was sentenced to 5 years of probation.

Authorities say the current case remains under investigation.
