As hazardous winter weather conditions continue across much of the state, multiple school districts and colleges have announced closures or operational changes, citing icy roads and unsafe travel conditions.
Officials with Lyon College say the Batesville campus will remain open and classes will be in session on Friday, January 30. However, faculty, staff, and commuter students are urged to use extreme caution when traveling due to lingering road hazards.
Several campuses within the Arkansas State University system have announced closures, including ASU – Searcy, which will remain closed. Other ASU campuses affected include ASU–Beebe, ASU–Heber Springs, ASU–Little Rock Air Force Base, and ASU–Three Rivers.
In addition, numerous K-12 school districts across Central and North Arkansas have canceled classes as winter weather continues to impact roadways and transportation routes. Administrators say decisions are being made with student and staff safety as the top priority.
School officials statewide continue to monitor weather and roadway conditions and remind families to stay weather-aware, limit unnecessary travel, and watch for additional updates through official school communication channels.
