Arkansas State Parks Invites Hikers for First Day Hikes 2026 as America 250 Journey Begins

Arkansas State Parks is gearing up once again for its annual First Day Hikes, a beloved tradition that encourages families, friends, and outdoor enthusiasts to begin the new year with fresh air, movement, and connection with nature. Officials say participation continues to grow, placing Arkansas among the strongest contributors to this nationwide initiative held across all 50 state park systems.

The 2026 event holds special significance as it marks the kickoff of the America 250 journey, leading up to the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 2026. Throughout the next year, Arkansas State Parks will host programs and experiences that highlight The Natural State’s role in America’s history and heritage.

On January 1, 2026, parks will offer ranger-led guided hikes statewide, while those who prefer to explore independently can take part in self-guided New Year hikes between December 27 and January 4. Participants have a chance to earn a free “Hike Arkansas State Parks” sticker in two ways: by joining an official First Day Hike on January 1, or by logging a self-guided hike online during New Year Week to have a sticker mailed.

Officials encourage hikers to explore trails, enjoy winter scenery, and build mindful habits of wellness and outdoor adventure. The parks’ event calendar continues to expand with new guided First Day Hike listings leading up to the new year.
