First Security Bank donated $50,000 to the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance, representing proceeds from “What’s Cookin’ at First Security Bank, Volume 2.”

Originally published in 2019, the second volume of the community cookbook includes more than 870 recipes submitted by First Security employees and customers across Arkansas. The project builds on the success of the first volume, published in 2011, which also benefited hunger relief efforts statewide.
Volume 2 features a wide range of recipes, including popular selections from the original book, along with special sections dedicated to heart-healthy meals, fast and easy dishes, family favorites, and diabetic-friendly recipes.
Proceeds from cookbook sales support the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance, a statewide nonprofit working to end hunger and improve access to nutritious food for all Arkansans. The Alliance serves as a collaborative umbrella organization for the state’s six Feeding America food banks and more than 500 local pantries and meal sites, providing training, technical assistance, and capacity-building support. Its initiatives include SNAP outreach, nutrition education, Food is Medicine programs, childhood hunger prevention, and public policy advocacy.
“Connecting with our community is central to First Security’s mission to Bank Better,” said John Rutledge, president and CEO of First Security Bank. “It’s not just something we say — it’s something we do. We’re proud to continue supporting the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance, and we knew our customers would be glad to join us in that effort.”
Sylvia Blain, CEO of the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance, said the donation reflects a long-standing commitment to community collaboration. “Support like this strengthens our statewide network and helps us address hunger today while building a healthier, more food-secure future for Arkansas,” Blain said.
According to Jennifer Owens Buie, the fundraiser highlights the power of community participation. “From employees and customers sharing family recipes to readers supporting the cookbook, this effort turns connection into real impact for children and families across Arkansas,” she said.
Over the past several years, one recipe from the cookbook has been featured monthly on OnlyinArk.com, a First Security–owned website celebrating Arkansas food, travel, sports, and events. Recently featured recipes include Three-Ingredient Haystacks, Chocolate Chip Cheese Football, and Stuffed Bell Peppers.
Kristi Thurmon, senior vice president and director of digital marketing for First Security Bank and publisher of OnlyinArk.com, said the cookbook fundraiser was truly employee-driven. “The goal was simple — involve the entire First Security family and contribute as much as possible to the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance,” Thurmon said.
The donation continues First Security Bank’s long-standing commitment to strengthening communities and supporting hunger relief efforts across the state.
