Trail Improvements at Queen Wilhelmina State Park Create New Mountain Biking Opportunities on Arkansas’ Second-Highest Peak

Arkansas State Parks celebrated the dedication of refreshed and enhanced trails at Queen Wilhelmina State Park, highlighting a renewed commitment to improving outdoor recreation access and elevating the visitor experience at one of Arkansas’s most scenic mountain destinations.

The event, held at the Queen Wilhelmina State Park Lodge, featured remarks from Deputy Director Jeff King, Secretary Shea Lewis, and First Gentleman Bryan Sanders.

The trail improvements have created new opportunities for mountain biking while enhancing conditions for hikers and nature enthusiasts. Visitors can now enjoy improved access to panoramic Ouachita Mountain overlooks, offering unforgettable views from Arkansas’s second-highest peak.

“Our work in Arkansas’ State Parks remains focused on stewardship, access, and the creation of unforgettable outdoor experiences,” said Secretary Shea Lewis. “The improvements made here at Queen Wilhelmina invite visitors to explore the mountaintop in new ways, reconnect with nature, and make lasting memories with family and friends.”

First Gentleman Bryan Sanders emphasized the importance of expanding outdoor recreation as part of Arkansas’s identity and economic vitality.

“Outdoor recreation is at the heart of Arkansas’ identity and a key driver of our quality of life,” said Sanders. “Through the Natural State Initiative, we’re strengthening access to trails and parks that fuel local economies and make Arkansas a premier travel destination. These improvements at Queen Wilhelmina will attract more visitors, boost tourism, and showcase one of the state’s most iconic views from Lover’s Leap.”

Located on the crest of Rich Mountain, Queen Wilhelmina State Park is celebrated for its sweeping views, diverse ecology, and historic charm. The enhancements are part of a statewide effort to expand recreational opportunities while preserving natural landscapes for future generations.
