The Arkansas State University–Beebe Theatre Department will present its fall student production of “Bright Star” November 6–9 in the Owen Center Theater, located at 1102 West College Street on the Beebe campus.

Showtimes are set for 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6, and Friday, Nov. 7; with matinee performances at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8 (followed by an alumni reception) and 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 9. Tickets are $5 per person and can be purchased online at www.asub.edu/tickets
or at the door. Doors open 30 minutes prior to each performance.

Nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, “Bright Star” is set in the American South during the 1920s and 1940s, following Alice Murphy, a literary editor whose life changes unexpectedly after meeting a young soldier returning from World War II.

Featuring an original bluegrass and folk-inspired score by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, the musical is inspired by a true story. It celebrates the enduring power of love, forgiveness, and redemption through heartfelt storytelling and joyful music.

“We want to invite everyone to our fall show, ‘Bright Star,’” said Ryan Gibbons, assistant professor of communication and theatre. “Written by comedian Steve Martin, this is an epic tale told from two time periods. With rousing music and a love story that never fades, this show truly has it all.”

The production is directed by Ryan Gibbons, Hope Hargrove, assistant professor of theatre/communications, and Estella Cordero, theatre and facilities technician. The show features the talents of ASU-Beebe students both on stage and behind the scenes.
