The Lyon College Convocation Committee will host U.S. Representative Rick Crawford for a public presentation at 4 p.m. Thursday, October 2, in Nucor Auditorium at the Lyon Business and Economics Building, 2300 Highland Road, Batesville.

Crawford, a Republican representing Arkansas’s First Congressional District, was first elected to Congress in 2010 and is now serving his seventh term. In January 2025, he became chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, after eight years on the panel, including service as chair of the CIA Subcommittee.
A senior member of the House Agriculture Committee, Crawford helped pass the 2014 and 2018 farm bills and has led several subcommittees focusing on agriculture as a national security priority. He also serves on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, securing projects such as the I-555 interstate designation.
Patrick Lynch, assistant professor of business, entrepreneurship, and marketing at Lyon College, said the event offers students and the community a chance to hear directly from a national policymaker.
“Congressman Crawford brings a wealth of experience on issues affecting Arkansas and the nation,” Lynch said. “His insights on agriculture, infrastructure, and intelligence help students connect classroom learning to real-world policy decisions.”
Crawford’s visit is part of Lyon College’s ongoing convocation series, designed to connect students with leaders in government, education, business, and public service, strengthening the college’s mission to prepare students for civic engagement and professional success.
Admission is free and open to the public.
