Unattended Fire Leads To Intervention by Firefighters In Arkansas
Firefighters arrived to find not a structure fire, but a large burn pile—the remains of a demolished building that had been bulldozed and set ablaze. The situation was downgraded to non-emergent, though crews stayed to ensure no risk to nearby homes, one of which reported smoke infiltration and triggered alarms.
Station 11 Assistant Fire Chief Wesley O’Neal emphasized that controlled burns must be reported in advance and never left unattended, despite being legal. The incident highlighted the importance of proper communication to avoid unnecessary risks.
A bulldozer and pickup truck were found near the fire, but no one was present at the scene. Conway County Sheriff’s Deputies stayed to locate those responsible and gather further details, with potential charges still under consideration.
MedTech EMS provided medical support for the firefighters during the response. The incident serves as a reminder of the need for responsible burn practices in the community.
