Heber Springs runner Riley Farris delivered a standout performance Tuesday at the Timberwolf Invitational in Newark, taking 1st place overall and setting a new course record.
Farris won the race with a time of 19:24 on the Newark City Park course, establishing a new course record during the annual meet hosted by Cedar Ridge High School.
The September 22 competition featured junior high and senior high runners from across Arkansas.

Farris crossed the finish line in 19 minutes, 24 seconds, earning the overall victory in the girls competition.
Her performance also established a new course record at Newark City Park.
The victory adds another major accomplishment to an already impressive distance-running résumé for the Heber Springs High School standout.
HUNDREDS ENTER TIMBERWOLF INVITATIONAL
The Timberwolf Invitational drew a large field of runners to Newark.
A pre-meet MileSplit Arkansas entry report listed 648 athletes entered across the high school boys and girls 5K races and junior high boys and girls 1.5-mile races. Those entries were listed as unofficial prior to competition.
The Newark City Park course is described by meet organizers as mostly flat and grass-covered with some incline and decline.
Junior high runners complete 1 loop, while senior high competitors complete 2 loops.
FARRIS ADDS ANOTHER WIN TO IMPRESSIVE RECORD
Farris entered the 2026 cross country season after winning the 2025 Arkansas 4A girls individual cross country state championship.
During the 2026 track season, she also won the 4A state championship in the girls 3,200 meters, recording a time of 12:22.88.
Farris finished 2nd in the 1,600 meters at the 2026 4A State Championship.
A September MileSplit preview listed her previous cross country personal best at 19:18.83.
Her latest performance in Newark adds a Timberwolf Invitational championship and Newark City Park course record to that résumé.
TIMBERWOLF INVITATIONAL A REGIONAL CROSS COUNTRY STAPLE
The Timberwolf Invitational is hosted annually by Cedar Ridge High School and brings junior high and high school cross country programs to Newark City Park.
Meet organizers award medals to the top 10 finishers in each division, while the top 2 teams in each division receive plaques.
Official timing and results for the meet are handled by OK Timing Plus, with meet information and historical performance data available through MileSplit Arkansas.
