A sudden power line collision sparked concern across Conway County Friday afternoon, drawing swift action from multiple emergency agencies.
Two drivers escaped injury after a truck hit a sagging power line on Lonoke Road, causing a pole to fall onto an oncoming car; firefighters used detection equipment to confirm the line remained live before it was safely de‑energized.
Truck Hits Sagging Power Line on Lonoke Road
A truck traveling north on Lonoke Road struck a low‑hanging power line, snapping poles on both sides of the roadway. The impact caused the line to flash and the poles to collapse.
One of the fallen poles struck a car traveling in the opposite direction, though both drivers reported no injuries. Authorities confirmed no other vehicles were involved.
Conway County Sheriff’s Office deputies kept the drivers inside their vehicles as a precaution until crews could verify the line was de‑energized. Firefighters from Hillcreek, Overcup, and Springfield fire departments used detection equipment and found the line was still carrying a charge.
Med‑Tech EMS crews spoke with the drivers, who declined further medical treatment after formal assessments. The line was eventually fully de‑energized, allowing EMTs and paramedics to complete their protocols.
