The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program has announced the recipients of the 2026-2027 Certified Local Government (CLG) grant awards, providing funding to communities across the state to support historic preservation efforts.

A total of 13 communities applied for grants this year, and all 13 applicants received funding through the program.

Among the award recipients in the region are Conway Arkansas, Fairfield Bay Arkansas, and Russellville Arkansas, each receiving funding to help support preservation training, planning, and public education initiatives.

Regional Grant Recipients

• City of Conway Arkansas – $5,900 for preservation staff training
• City of Fairfield Bay Arkansas – $1,115 for preservation training
• City of Russellville Arkansas – $74,000 for a preservation plan, training, and public education

Certified Local Government grants are funded through the federal Historic Preservation Fund, which provides annual funding to states to help protect historic buildings, cultural resources, and architectural heritage.

Arkansas currently has 21 Certified Local Government communities that are eligible to apply for the grants each year.

The Certified Local Government program, created by Congress in 1980, encourages local governments to take proactive steps in preserving historic resources within their communities. Cities participating in the program also receive technical assistance and preservation training from the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program.

Officials say projects funded through the grants often support preservation planning, training for historic preservation commissions, public education initiatives, and efforts to protect historic landmarks.

The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program, part of Arkansas Heritage, works to identify, evaluate, register, and preserve the state’s cultural resources.

Arkansas Heritage operates as a division of the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage and Tourism, which promotes and protects Arkansas’s historic, cultural, and natural assets.
