Rep. Rick Crawford Warns of Air Travel and Security Risks if DHS Funding Lapses

Rick Crawford is speaking out on the path forward for Department of Homeland Security funding as the next federal funding deadline approaches following the end of the partial government shutdown.

In remarks addressing the situation, Crawford emphasized that DHS funding supports multiple national security components — not just Immigration and Customs Enforcement — and said blocking the broader funding package could negatively affect agencies such as the Transportation Security Administration and the U.S. Coast Guard.

Crawford noted that ICE has already been funded through prior appropriations and argued that failure to pass the full DHS package could risk disruptions to airport security and air travel operations, along with short-term economic impacts tied to transportation slowdowns.

He urged lawmakers to reach agreement before the deadline, saying continued negotiations are critical to prevent service interruptions and protect core homeland security missions. Congressional leaders are expected to continue talks in the coming days as the DHS funding expiration date nears.
