Arkansas Lt. Governor Leslie Rutledge shared a heartfelt message on World Cancer Day, offering support to families affected by cancer and expressing gratitude for the care her own family has received.

Rutledge said her heart goes out to every family touched by the disease, especially those who have lost loved ones too soon. She noted that World Cancer Day serves as a reminder of both the challenges patients face and the importance of access to quality treatment and support.

She also publicly thanked the UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute for the care provided to her father, Keith Rutledge, and recognized Dr. Makhoul and his medical team for delivering what she described as world-class treatment.

Health leaders say World Cancer Day highlights the need for early detection, advanced treatment options, and continued research, while also honoring patients, survivors, and caregivers across Arkansas and beyond.
