Purple Heart Awarded to MSG John Grayson of Bald Knob During 2-26-2026 Ceremony

A ceremony held Thursday, 2-26-2026, honored MSG John Asa Grayson of Bald Knob with the Purple Heart for wounds received during combat operations in Iraq.
During the presentation, French Hill addressed family and friends, highlighting the significance of the Purple Heart and the sacrifice it represents.
According to official records, on 11-1-2006, then-Sergeant Grayson and his platoon were operating on the outer cordon of Ramadi, Iraq. After returning to his HMMWV from checking a nearby Iraqi guard tower, a mortar round detonated near his position. The blast knocked him into the vehicle door, causing injuries sustained in hostile action.
In accordance with Permanent Order 124-0002 dated 5-3-2024, the President of the United States awarded Grayson the Purple Heart for wounds received in combat. He served with Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment.
Speakers thanked Grayson’s family for their continued support and recognized his service and sacrifice.
