Scott Steely will retire at the end of February after more than three decades of service with the Cabot Police Department.

According to a department social media announcement, Steely began his career as an auxiliary officer in February 1994 before becoming a full-time officer later that year. Over the next 31 years, he rose through the ranks, spending much of his career in the Criminal Investigations Division.

During his tenure, Steely worked more than 250 death scenes and investigated major cases including homicides, bank robberies, officer-involved shootings, and financial fraud. Officials say his work contributed to more than 1,000 arrests.

Steely was named interim chief in April 2022 and officially sworn in as chief in August 2022. As chief, he emphasized modernizing the department through technology upgrades, expanded community outreach, and staffing development.

Under his leadership, the department secured grants for in-car computers, completed a new Justice Center, launched a Citizens Police Academy, and achieved Tier 1 Advanced Accreditation through the Arkansas Law Enforcement Accreditation Program.

Department leaders say Steely leaves behind a legacy of professionalism, innovation, and community-focused policing.
