A Beebe homicide investigation remains active after police confirmed a suspect is in custody following a fatal shooting Friday afternoon.

According to the Beebe Police Department, White County 911 received a call around 4:00 p.m. on February 13, 2026, from a resident who discovered a neighbor deceased inside a home. Officers responded and determined the death was a homicide.
Authorities later identified the victim as Martha Lassiter-Barber. Her son, Christopher Michael Barber, has been arrested and charged with capital murder. He is being held at the White County Detention Center.
Police say there is no believed ongoing threat to the community. The investigation continues with assistance from the White County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and the White County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division.
Beebe Mayor Mike Robertson issued a statement saying the work of law enforcement often involves difficult situations, thanked agencies for their swift professionalism, and extended condolences from the City of Beebe to all families affected.
Officials say no further information is being released at this time.
