Arkansas Agencies Still Working Around the Clock After Winter Storm Fern

Arkansas agencies are still working around the clock following Winter Storm Fern, continuing coordinated recovery operations across much of the state after days of snow, ice, and dangerous cold.

The says response efforts have shifted into extended recovery mode, with state and local partners focused on damage assessments, resource delivery, and infrastructure restoration.

Before and during the storm, state partners — including the Arkansas Department of Transportation, Arkansas State Police, the Arkansas National Guard, and the Arkansas Department of Health — activated emergency plans and staged resources statewide. Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders issued an emergency declaration that enabled expanded response and federal support.

Transportation crews treated tens of thousands of highway miles and continue clearing and monitoring routes for lingering hazards. Warming centers that opened during the storm served residents across more than 70 locations, with some support services continuing where needed.

FEMA teams are now working alongside state and county officials to document storm impacts and support ongoing recovery planning. Field assessment teams began preliminary damage surveys this week in affected counties.

Emergency officials say interagency coordination remains active, and resource support continues for communities still dealing with winter storm impacts.
