A US Highway 65 fatal crash in St. Joe claimed the life of an 82-year-old Mountain Home man Monday evening, according to the Arkansas State Police.

Authorities report the crash occurred at approximately 6:20 p.m. on February 9, 2026, along US Highway 65 in Searcy County.
According to the preliminary report, Thomas Sumner Tannen, 82, of Mountain Home, was walking southbound in the roadway when he was struck by a southbound 1997 GMC Sierra.
Weather conditions were reported as clear, and the roadway was dry at the time of the crash.
Tannen was pronounced deceased at the scene. His body is being held at the Searcy County Morgue. Next of kin has been notified.
Trooper Tyler C. Jorgensen (612) with Arkansas State Police is investigating the fatal crash.
The investigation remains ongoing.
