UPDATE: Winter Storm Watch Now in Effect for Entire Listening Area as Heavy Snow, Ice, and Hazardous Travel Expected

, , Leave a comment

A Winter Storm Watch is now in effect for the entire ArkansasRadio.com listening area from Friday afternoon through late Saturday night as forecasters warn of a high-impact winter weather event capable of producing heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain across much of the state.

Meteorologists say central to northern Arkansas could see total snow accumulations ranging from 4 to 8 inches, with localized amounts exceeding 8 to 10 inches possible. Across the southern third of the state, a mixture of snow and sleet could total 1 to 3 inches, while far southern Arkansas may experience freezing rain accumulations between one-quarter and one-half inch.

The storm is expected to impact portions of central, eastern, north central, southeast, southwest, and western Arkansas. Officials warn that ice accumulation could lead to tree damage and power outages, and travel could become extremely dangerous โ€” especially during the Friday evening commute.

Emergency officials encourage residents to monitor forecasts closely, avoid unnecessary travel if conditions worsen, and prepare emergency kits in case of power interruptions or road closures.

Weather conditions and accumulation forecasts may continue to change as the system approaches.
