The Arkansas Division of Emergency Management (ADEM) says the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) remains activated as response and recovery efforts continue following the winter storm that moved through Arkansas late last week.

The SEOC has confirmed two fatalities related to the storm. According to the Arkansas State Police, a 40-year-old man died in an ATV accident in Columbia County east of Magnolia. A second fatality involved a 17-year-old male in Saline County, also connected to an ATV incident.

Officials also report nine injuries statewide, including three in Columbia County, one in Cleburne County, one in Hempstead County, and four in Saline County.

A total of 30 counties declared local emergencies in anticipation of snow, ice, and freezing temperatures. The SEOC continues coordinating with county emergency managers, local officials, and partner agencies to assess damage, support response operations, and prioritize public safety.

The Arkansas Department of Agriculture reports that approximately 175 poultry houses were damaged or destroyed during the winter weather event. Additional damage has been reported at marinas, commercial properties, and government structures.

ADEM staff are compiling damage assessments from across the state and working with affected counties to verify impacts and determine potential eligibility for disaster assistance.

The SEOC continues coordination with the Arkansas State Police, the Arkansas Department of Health, and The Arkansas Department of Transportation, along with local emergency management offices, to address ongoing hazards and recovery needs.

Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and to report property damage to county officials. Additional updates will be released as more information becomes available.

The Arkansas Division of Emergency Management serves as the state’s homeland security and preparedness agency, working to reduce the impact of disasters through prevention, preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery efforts.
