Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced that President Donald J. Trump has approved Arkansas’ request for an Emergency Declaration to provide Direct Federal Assistance as the state continues responding to severe winter weather that began January 23, 2026, and remains ongoing.

The emergency declaration allows federal resources to support Arkansas’ response efforts as hazardous winter conditions impact travel, utilities, emergency services, and public safety statewide.

Governor Sanders said the additional support strengthens the state’s ability to assist communities and respond quickly as conditions evolve.

“All of Arkansas is grateful to President Trump and Secretary Kristi Noem for their work to prepare our state for this weekend’s severe winter weather,” Sanders said. “We have already deployed state resources around Arkansas and with this additional federal support, we’ll have greater capacity to assist Arkansans in need.”

Under the declaration, Arkansas will receive Category A and Category B assistance, limited to Direct Federal Assistance, statewide. These categories typically include emergency protective measures, debris clearance, and essential response operations that support public safety and recovery.

State officials continue coordinating with local agencies and emergency management partners to monitor conditions and deploy resources where they are most needed. Residents are encouraged to remain weather-aware, limit travel when possible, and follow guidance from state and local authorities.

Additional updates will be provided as response efforts continue across the state.
