An out-of-state registered sex offender has been arrested in Izard County after investigators say he failed to comply with Arkansas sex offender registry requirements.

The Izard County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were notified on January 8, 2026, of a possible non-compliant sex offender living at a campsite in the southwest part of the county. The individual was identified as 53-year-old Jonathon Charles Bailey, who had reportedly been staying at the campsite for several months.
Investigators determined Bailey is a registered sex offender out of Michigan with a listed address in Swartz Creek, Michigan. Deputies located Bailey at the campsite, where his camper displayed Michigan registration while his truck showed Arkansas registration tied to an address in Sharp County.
Bailey told deputies he had been staying at the campsite since September 2025 and claimed it was only temporary. He also stated he had recently traveled to Michigan and verified his registry information there. The Michigan Sex Offender Registry confirms Bailey updated his registration on December 26, 2025.
During the investigation, deputies also discovered Bailey was in possession of multiple internet-capable media devices.
The Sharp County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Bailey had not registered with their agency, as required.
Authorities say Bailey failed to register his address, vehicles, and internet-capable devices with the Arkansas Sex Offender Registry. He has now been charged in Izard County Circuit Court with Failure to Comply with Registration and Reporting Requirements, a Class C felony.
Sheriff’s officials say Bailey is the 17th person charged in Izard County for sex offender registry violations in the past three years.
The investigation remains ongoing.
