Heber Springs Man Gets 15 Years in Federal Prison in Child Pornography Case

A Heber Springs man with prior convictions involving crimes against children has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for attempted distribution of child pornography, according to the Office of the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas.

Jonathan D. Ross, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas, announced that Charles David Agnew, 42, was sentenced by United States District Judge D.P. Marshall Jr. Agnew was also ordered to serve 10 years of supervised release following his prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.

Agnew was indicted by a federal grand jury on April 5, 2023, on charges including attempted enticement of a minor, attempted distribution of child pornography, and possession of child pornography. On August 19, 2025, he pleaded guilty to attempted distribution of child pornography.

According to court records, the investigation involved online communications with an undercover law enforcement officer. Federal authorities said the case demonstrated intent to exchange illegal material involving minors.

Agnew has two previous state convictions related to internet stalking of a child and possession of material depicting sexual conduct involving a minor, for which he previously served prison sentences.

The case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative led by the U.S. Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and online abuse. Officials encourage parents to monitor children’s online activity and report suspicious behavior.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kristin Bryant.
