Arkansas will have a strong connection to this year’s Super Bowl as former Arkansas State Red Wolves players prepare to compete for football’s ultimate prize — the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Former ASU standouts Mehki Butler and Courtney Jackson, both from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, will be part of opposing teams in Super Bowl LX, set for February 8 at 5:30 p.m. at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

Courtney Jackson earned his trip to the Super Bowl after the Seattle Seahawks defeated the Los Angeles Rams in a high-scoring NFC Championship game.

Meanwhile, Mehki Butler secured his spot after the New England Patriots outlasted the Denver Broncos in a snowy, defense-driven AFC Championship matchup.

The Seahawks will face the Patriots in the championship game, creating a unique storyline for Arkansas football fans as two former Red Wolves chase the most prestigious trophy in professional football.

Fans across northeast Arkansas and the Arkansas State University community are expected to follow the matchup closely as the former teammates take the field on football’s biggest stage.
