Batesville Fire Department Responds to First Structure Fire of 2026

The Batesville Fire Department responded to its first structure fire of 2026 early Tuesday morning, successfully containing the blaze and preventing major damage.

According to fire officials, Batesville Fire B Shift was dispatched at approximately 5:50 a.m. to the 1500 block of North Central Avenue after a neighbor reported flames coming from the rear of a residence. Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy fire at the back of the home and significant fire conditions in the attic.

Firefighters conducted a rapid interior search to check for victims before pulling ceiling materials to access the fire area. Crews were able to extinguish the blaze quickly, limiting damage to the rear portion of the house. Officials say approximately 80 percent of the home was saved, with only minor smoke damage reported.

No injuries were reported. The response included four on-duty firefighters, four off-duty firefighters, and two volunteers. Fire officials credited the fast response time and training of personnel for the successful outcome.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
