New Year’s Public Notice: Dry Conditions Increase Wildfire Risk Across Arkansas

, , Leave a comment

As Arkansans celebrate the start of 2026, officials are urging the public to use caution outdoors as dry conditions have increased wildfire risk across much of the state. Even small sparks from fireworks, outdoor equipment, or open flames can ignite dry grass and spread rapidly.

The Arkansas Department of Agriculture maintains a county-by-county wildfire danger map, ranking risk levels from low, moderate, high, to extreme, depending on drought conditions, vegetation dryness, and weather patterns. Many counties currently sit at moderate risk, and burn bans are now in effect for Benton, Carroll, Crawford, Madison, and Washington counties.

Wildfire Safety Guidelines for New Year Activities

• Avoid open burning, including trash burns, campfires, fireworks, and open-flame grilling
• Keep trailers secure — ensure safety chains do not drag and create sparks
• Do not drive or park vehicles over dry grass
• Use caution with machinery in fields or wooded areas
• Keep water nearby if using fireworks or outdoor heat sources
• Report fires immediately: 1-800-468-8834
• Do not fly drones over wildfires — they ground aircraft and delay firefighting

Residents are encouraged to stay informed by checking the Arkansas wildfire map, following burn ban updates, and monitoring announcements from state authorities.
