Lyon College School of Dental Medicine’s Dr. Stefanie Leacock Receives National Biology Teaching Award

The National Association of Biology Teachers (NABT) has announced Dr. Stefanie Leacock, director of research at the Lyon College School of Dental Medicine, as the recipient of the 2025 Four-Year College and University Biology Teaching Award.

This prestigious national honor recognizes excellence in undergraduate biology education, celebrating innovative curriculum design, creative instructional strategies, and impactful laboratory engagement that enhances student learning. The award is sponsored by NABT’s Four-Year College and University Section.

“As NABT president, I’m honored to congratulate our 2025 award winners,” said Dr. Kirstin Milks, NABT president. “It’s incredibly important to recognize excellence in life science teaching and educational research. This outstanding group of educators brings life-changing work to students nationwide.”

Colleagues at Lyon College praised Dr. Leacock’s leadership and dedication to advancing biomedical sciences education.

“Dr. Leacock brings an exceptional level of passion, innovation, and rigor to biomedical sciences education,” said Dr. Burke Soffe, founding dean of the Lyon College School of Dental Medicine. “Her work developing research-driven learning experiences has elevated our programs and inspired our students. This national recognition affirms her extraordinary commitment to excellence.”

Dr. Leacock said she was honored to receive the award and grateful for the opportunity to mentor future scientists and health professionals.

“I’m constantly inspired by my curious and resilient students,” Leacock said. “This recognition energizes my continued work at Lyon College and the School of Dental Medicine to apply evidence-based teaching and support students as lifelong learners and future dental professionals.”
