Hendrix College has received a landmark $10 million endowment challenge grant from the Little Rock–based Windgate Foundation, representing one of the largest single investments in the College’s history and providing major momentum as Hendrix prepares to celebrate its sesquicentennial in 2026.

Hendrix President Karen Petersen said the challenge grant will strengthen the College’s long-term financial foundation while inspiring donors to invest in the people and programs that define the Hendrix experience. The funding will support scholarships and financial aid, faculty excellence, and the expansion of distinctive academic programs that prepare students for today’s workforce.

Under the terms of the challenge, the Windgate Foundation will match new gifts to Hendrix of $100,000 or more on a one-to-one basis, up to $10 million. College leaders say the initiative will accelerate efforts to grow a sustainable endowment and ensure continued access to a high-impact liberal arts education.

Windgate Foundation Executive Director Patricia Forgy said the foundation is proud to support Hendrix’s role in expanding educational opportunities across Arkansas, noting that the grant directly strengthens programs, scholarships, and faculty support that impact student success.

As Hendrix approaches its 150th anniversary, the College is developing new academic pathways and experiential learning programs designed to better connect liberal arts education with workforce needs. Advancement Vice President Quincy Davidson called the challenge grant a catalyst for the College’s next chapter, offering alumni and supporters a unique opportunity to amplify their impact while positioning Hendrix for long-term success.
