Arkansas paid tribute Tuesday to one of its most respected military leaders, Major General James A. “Jack” Ryan, who was laid to rest with full military honors on December 2, 2025. More than 200 people—family members, friends, veterans, and fellow service members—gathered at the Arkansas State Veterans Military Cemetery to honor his life and legacy.

Ryan, who was born December 4, 1929, and passed away November 25, 2025, at age 95, served as Adjutant General of Arkansas for seven years. During his tenure, he led the Arkansas National Guard through critical periods of growth, modernization, and service. His leadership left a lasting imprint on the state’s military readiness and community support operations.
The funeral ceremony reflected the significance of his contributions, featuring full military honors provided by personnel representing multiple branches. Attendees described the service as a fitting tribute to a man whose dedication to Arkansas and the nation spanned decades.
