An ambulance transporting a patient to the hospital crashed in Newport Monday evening, leaving four people injured, according to the Tuckerman Fire Department and Volunteer Ambulance Service.
Emergency crews say the ambulance flipped onto its side during the wreck. The patient, along with three ambulance personnel, was taken to Unity Health in Newport for treatment. Their names and current conditions have not yet been released.

Newport Fire EMS, Diaz Fire Department, Southern EMS, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Diaz and Tuckerman Police, and Newport Mayor Derrick Ratliffe all responded to the scene and later assisted at the hospital. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
