A minor 2.2 magnitude earthquake was recorded near Smithville early Saturday, though no residents reported feeling any shaking. According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the quake occurred at 3:19 a.m. on November 15, located 3.9 miles east-northeast of Smithville, Arkansas, at a depth of approximately 7 miles.

While earthquakes of this size are typically too weak to be felt by most people, the USGS is asking anyone who may have experienced the tremor to submit a report on its official website. As of Saturday morning, no felt reports had been filed.
Earthquakes of this magnitude are not uncommon in the region and rarely cause damage, but monitoring them helps scientists better understand seismic activity in Arkansas.
