WWII Discovery Made In Van Buren County Decades Later

An amazing event occurred on July 4th in Fairfield Bay, Arkansas.

Mayor Seth Connell released a following update after a ceremony involving the ashes of a WWII veteran at the local Fairfield Bay Library.

You can read the statement below:

Today I took part in something wonderful…

Marilyn Robertson at the Fairfield Bay Museum recently told me that a Pearl Harbor veteran secretly had some of his ashes buried at the flag pole at the local library.

That was over 20 years ago…

Incredibly, no one knew about it — except Marilyn.

The veteran’s name was Frank Cabiness. He was a United States Marine stationed at Pearl Harbor.

Frank later retired in Fairfield Bay.

While some of Frank’s ashes were buried at Pearl Harbor, he also had his ashes buried in Fairfield Bay without telling anyone.

The story was almost forgotten.

Thankfully, I found a way to reach out to Frank’s family. His son, Jerry, confirmed the story.

Jerry flew in from Texas today to celebrate his father’s touching story for Independence Day and make sure his father’s legacy lives on.

The Fairfield Bay VFW Color Guard joined us in this beautiful ceremony.

The Fairfield Bay Chamber of Commerce provided refreshments.

Thank you to everyone for participating.

Ronald Reagan once said:

“Freedom is never more than a generation away from extinction.”

History never stops. Neither should we. Let’s keep these stories alive.
