The Arkansas Traveler is an honorary title for individuals serving as goodwill ambassadors for Arkansas. A certificate, signed by the governor, secretary of state, and the recipient’s sponsor, is awarded during a formal event.
The award was established in 1941, with the first certificate given to President Franklin D. Roosevelt on May 20. A resolution from the Arkansas Legislature approved it.
Former Governor Bill Clinton bestowed the title on many during his tenure. The award recognizes those who positively represent Arkansas through their actions.
Notable past recipients include Muhammad Ali, Maya Angelou, and Ronald Reagan. The list also features diverse figures like Garth Brooks and the NJIT baseball team.
The Robertsons join a prestigious group, celebrated for their contributions to Arkansas’ image. The Arkansas Traveler award remains a cherished tradition in the state.
