Cabot, Arkansas Mayor Breaks Tie In Historic “Dry County” Vote

Lonoke County has been a dry county for over 80 years. But Cabot, Arkansas has decided to allow a specialty brewery come to the city after some heated discussions.

The mayor of Cabot, Arkansas broke the tie after the City Council was stuck in a 4 to 4 vote over leasing a fire station building to a brewery. One resident said the plan was “crossing the line” in a dry county, declaring: “This is not an alcohol-party community.” The vote passed anyway.

Mayor Breaks The Vote Over Brewery In Cabot, Arkansas

Just because Lonoke County is a dry county doesn’t mean that club establishments can’t open and offer VIP quality experiences.

Mayor Ken Kincade of Cabot is supporting the revitalization of downtown, mentioning ongoing collaborations with Buckman Brewhouse.

Lonoke County has been a dry county since 1942, when counties were given the option to go dry under Initiated Act 1.

However, the new decision seems to allow an exception to the rule for the new VIP experience brought by Buckman Brewhouse.

Buckman Brewhouse is actively selling their artisan bread at various local venues including the Cabot Farmers Market and Squizito Tasting Room. They are also planning to expand by opening their own restaurant within a year, which will operate under a private-club license obtained from the Arkansas Beverage Control.

What Is Buckman Brewhouse?

According to their official website, Buckman Brewhouse is a local place that crafts specialty dishes and drinks for patrons.

Here’s what they offer:

  • Craft Brewing: They produce their own beer and kombucha, focusing on unique and creative recipes.
  • Baking: They make sourdough bread, emphasizing artisanal techniques.
  • Beverage Crafting: Apart from alcoholic beverages, they create hand-crafted sodas.
  • Hospitality: They operate a brewhouse or a similar establishment where they serve their products along with a specialized menu, designed to make patrons feel at home and part of a family.
  • Community Engagement: Through their products and atmosphere, they aim to enhance community bonds and contribute to the local culture by promoting good food, creativity, and joy.

It’s Happening In Other Arkansas Locations

This news comes after it was announced in Batesville, Arkansas that a brewery was coming to town after almost a century!

It was the first opening since Prohibition, with an opening launched recently. Lyon College also announced a partnership with the new brewery, highlighting it as a unique educational opportunity for its students.

It should be up to the people of Lonoke County whether or not the county should be wet or dry.
