Deadly Drug Issue Leads To Emergency Measures At Arkansas College

It’s one of the deadliest drugs targeting Arkansas youth. It’s a crisis.

A new activist group called “End Overdose” is tackling the deadly rise of Fentanyl overdoses at University of Arkansas. The group is taking action by deploying “Fentanyl Kits” across University of Arkansas campus.

“Fentanyl Kits” Being Deployed Across University Of Arkansas

Students at the University of Arkansas have recently established the first chapter of End Overdose in the state, aiming to combat the rising tide of drug overdoses among young adults. Alex Mykytyn, a junior business major and the chapter’s president, emphasizes the group’s focus on prevention rather than reaction, highlighting the critical age demographic on campus.

Mykytyn pointed out the dangers of fentanyl, an opioid significantly more potent than heroin and morphine. She noted that its lethal dose is just two milligrams, making it extremely risky when mixed unknowingly into other substances like Adderall or Xanax:

“Fentanyl is an opioid painkiller… but it is 50 times stronger than heroin, 100 times stronger than morphine, and it only takes two milligrams to become lethal.”

The presence of such a potent drug in unsuspecting forms underscores the urgency of End Overdose’s mission. By educating and preparing students, the organization hopes to mitigate the risks associated with drug misuse before they escalate.

In 2021, there were over 600 people in Arkansas who died from an overdose. The group thinks they can help make people safer.
