Mayor Hit And Run Suspect “No Show” At Court
The Clark County Prosecutor’s Office has recently filed felony charges against several individuals, as detailed in public documents from ARCourts. These charges do not include any misdemeanor charges that might also be pending against the defendants, who are considered innocent until proven guilty in court.
Latasha Nichole Heyward, a local resident, failed to appear in court for a scheduled hearing in April 2024, related to a hit-and-run incident from 2017. The incident involved Heyward’s SUV colliding with a motorcycle driven by Scott Byrd, the mayor of Arkadelphia, after running a stop sign at 7th and Carpenter streets.
Heyward left the scene immediately after the accident, which resulted in injuries to Mayor Byrd necessitating medical attention. Despite the severity of the incident, Heyward did not show up for her court date, leading to further legal consequences.
The accident has been a point of discussion in the community, especially given Mayor Byrd’s involvement. The failure to appear in court has now compounded the legal issues facing Heyward.
This case underscores the ongoing challenges in ensuring accountability for traffic violations, particularly when they involve public figures or have significant community impact.
