At approximately 8:10 a.m. on Thursday, Midland Schools reported a fire alarm on campus, prompting an immediate response from emergency services. Midland staff, along with School Resource Officer Jason Cole, quickly ensured that all students and staff were safely evacuated from the affected building. The Pleasant Plains and Floral Fire Departments swiftly arrived on the scene, extinguishing the flames and removing smoke from the premises. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Both Batesville Fire Department and Southside Fire Department were initially dispatched but were later canceled upon receiving the all-clear code. The situation was declared under control at 9:38 a.m.

Special thanks go to Independence County Sheriff’s Office SRO Jason Cole, Midland School staff, Pleasant Plains FD, Floral FD, Pleasant Plains PD, and OEM Director Bill Johnson for their prompt and effective response. Independence County remains strong in the face of challenges.
