In 2022, Arkansas reported the third highest infant mortality rate in the nation, with 7.67 infant deaths per 1,000 live births, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Infant mortality refers to the death of a baby before their first birthday. In response, Arkansas is implementing various initiatives to reduce these deaths. One notable program is “Following Baby Back Home,” developed by the UAMS Department of Pediatrics. This program aims to enhance the care of high-risk infants by offering health-focused home visits and care management services after the infants are discharged from neonatal intensive care.
