A chemical fire just shut down a large stretch of highway.

According to KARK, a chemical fire broke out in Ashley County in Crossett, Arkansas. Eight large miles of highway were impacted.

Chemical Fire Breaks Out

Nearby stores were evacuated near Alvar Resins in Crossett, Arkansas.

A large chemical fire led to eight miles of Highway 82 getting shut down on Tuesday.

Department of Transportation officials say the fire was quickly put under control.

The Crossett Economic Development Foundation released a statement on social media:

“I want to take a second and update everyone on the fire at Alvar Resins. According to the owner, there are no hazardous materials involved and he intends to have the business back in operations as soon as possible. He is committed to taking care of his employees and his customers through this difficult time.”
Operations are now back to normal in the area.
