October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and White River Health is inviting the community to a special evening of breast health education, personal stories of courage and survival, and a complimentary dinner in Batesville.

The FREE Breast Health Talk and Dinner will take place Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at 6 PM at the White River Medical Center Conference Center.

The evening will feature medical professionals discussing breast health and genetic counseling, along with personal experiences shared by breast cancer survivors.

Dinner will be provided by Myriad Genetics.

The event is FREE and open to the public, and no advance registration is required.

Breast Health Education With Dr. Lindsay Devereux

Lindsay Devereux, MD, a general surgeon at White River Health Surgery Clinic, will lead an interactive presentation focused on breast health.

The presentation will give attendees an opportunity to learn more about breast health and participate in a discussion led by a medical professional.

Breast health education is an important part of understanding changes in the breast, recognizing possible warning signs, and learning about screening and preventive care.

Women and families attending the event will have an opportunity to hear information intended to encourage breast health awareness and informed conversations with healthcare providers.

Breast Cancer Survivors to Share Personal Stories

A special part of the October 27 event will feature personal stories about breast cancer and survivorship.

3 healthcare professionals will share their experiences:

  • Alisha Hightower, APRN
  • Crystal McSpadden, RN
  • Janet Pierson, CRNA

Their presentations will offer personal perspectives on the experiences and challenges associated with breast cancer.

Organizers hope these stories will provide encouragement, understanding, and a sense of connection for those whose lives have been affected by the disease.

The speakers will share their individual experiences as part of an evening designed to promote education and community support.

Genetic Counselor to Discuss Breast Cancer Risk

The event will also include a special presentation by Marianne Lotito, MS, CGC, a genetic counselor with Myriad Genetics.

Genetic counseling can help individuals better understand inherited factors that may influence cancer risk.

Certain inherited genetic changes, including changes in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes, can increase the risk of developing breast cancer.

Genetic counselors help patients and families understand personal and family medical histories, discuss the possible benefits and limitations of genetic testing, and interpret results when testing is appropriate.

The presentation will introduce attendees to genetic counseling as another resource in understanding breast health and cancer risk.

Free Dinner Provided by Myriad Genetics

In addition to the educational presentations, guests will enjoy a complimentary dinner provided by Myriad Genetics.

There is no admission charge, and advance registration is not required.

White River Health encourages community members interested in breast health education, cancer awareness, and survivorship stories to attend.

The event provides an opportunity for attendees to learn from healthcare professionals while connecting with others in the community.

October Is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is observed every October to encourage education, awareness, and conversations about breast health.

Breast cancer is among the most commonly diagnosed cancers in women in the United States.

Health professionals emphasize the importance of understanding individual risk factors, discussing appropriate screening with healthcare providers, and seeking medical evaluation for concerning breast changes.

The White River Health event will bring medical education and personal survivorship stories together as part of the annual awareness observance.

Where to Enter White River Medical Center

Guests attending the Breast Health Talk and Dinner should enter through the Josephine Raye Rogers Center for Women and Imaging at White River Medical Center.
