The holiday spirit was on full display at Becknell Gymnasium as teddy bears and plush toys rained onto the floor during Lyon College’s annual Furry Frenzy Toy Toss, held during the Scots’ men’s basketball game against East Texas Baptist University.
Fans donated 223 stuffed animals as part of the event, hosted by the Lyon College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Spectators received free admission with the donation of a new stuffed animal, which was tossed onto the court after the Scots scored their first points.

All collected toys will be donated to the Rotary Club of Batesville’s Angel Tree program, helping provide holiday gifts for local children in need.
“On behalf of the Rotary Club of Batesville, I want to thank everyone who contributed,” said Tommy Newton, president-elect of the club and Lyon College’s vice president for enrollment services. “This generosity brings joy to children in our community and reflects the true spirit of giving.”
Among athletic programs, cross country/track and field led with 70 toy donations. In Greek Life, Tau Kappa Epsilon collected 52 stuffed animals, followed by Phi Mu with 28.
“This is one of our favorite service traditions,” said SAAC adviser Kortney Cunningham. “Seeing the court filled with stuffed animals is meaningful—a celebration of generosity, teamwork, and the spirit of the season.”
The Furry Frenzy Toy Toss continues to be a cherished part of Lyon College’s winter athletics schedule, uniting students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community supporters.
